Clean energy comes from a renewable source and is harmless to the environment. Unlike fossil fuels and other power sources that release hazardous greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, clean energy is zero-emission. Solar power, wind power, and hydrothermal power are three examples of clean energy sources. Clean energy can be used to generate electricity or used for heating directly. Besides mitigating air pollution, clean energy eliminates the financial and economic costs of imported fuels. Clean energy solutions are also amenable to scaling. For example, hydrothermal energy from water movement in municipal pipelines can generate moderate amounts of electricity for communities when a small hydrothermal power generator is designed for this purpose. A large-scale option is hydroelectric power plants, serving a wider area.
